Our Mission
Our mission is to empower students from vulnerable communities in the Dominican Republic to continue with their education!
Who is Ana Joaquina
Ana Joaquina is the President's, Romi Roman, and Vice President's, Emili Roman, grandmother and inspiration behind the nonprofit. Growing up Ana experienced poverty first hand and was determined to start change. She had dreams of becoming and educator in hopes of benefitting her community and the students within in. Ana was well known in her community for having a kind heart and devoting her work to education. Seeing her hard work Romi and Emili were inspired to do the same and in 2019 Ana Joaquina Nonprofit was born!
What We Do
With the help of community leaders and volunteers that we partner with, we try to provide families in the Dominican Republic with the necessary tools they need for their children to be successful in school. We do this primarily through collecting donations for school supplies and food. We believe that with investing in school materials and food we can empower students to take control of their education. Giving them confidence with useful school supplies and fueling their bodies because health is wealth! We aspire to expand the resources we can provide as we continue to grow!
Why It's Important
This is important because, according to a report by the Office of National Statistics, Dominican Republic, in 2020-2021 only 58.2% of students completed primary school and only 29% graduated from secondary school. Our goal is to increase these numbers and get more students to complete secondary school and make their way to college and higher education.
What can you do
Partner with us either through volunteering your time, skills and efforts, you can donate resources and you can invest in our mission! Ana Joaquina has a GoFundMe, Paypal and Zelle where you can donate money for the Nonprofit to buy supplies needed for families and plan community events. We also have an Amazon Wishlist and directly buy items that are being requested. As we continue to collect donations, not only can we directly benefit a greater number of families but it increases the opportunities of other ways we can give back. We would love to provide other free resources such as tutoring if we have the funding to support it.
