Romi is an educator and philanthropist with an extensive history of leadership roles, community service, teaching, and volunteering work. Romi is a Ph.D. candidate student at Penn State University studying Hispanic Linguistics. She holds a BA in Spanish and a minor in Linguistics from The College of New Jersey. At the age of 15, she emigrated from the Dominican Republic to the US looking for a better future. In 2017, Romi decided to take a year off from school to explore her country's needs, social issues, and lack of resources, as well as her passions and goals. In 2019 along with her sister, close friends, and family, she started a school supply drive in Cana Chapetón, Dominican Republic. With the time, it became what is known today as "Ana Joaquina Nonprofit" in memory of her grandmother: a lovely caring person who grew up in poverty hoping to become an educator. Ana Joaquina was very well known in her community for her devoted work and kind heart.
